    Firefly?

I guess it's a new Firefly animated series, with all the living cast members back (So, yes, even Alan Tudyk, but no Ron Glass).

And they've shared some art, but don't yet have a broadcaster / streamer.

And Whedon is not involved, though Nathan Fillion says it has his blessing.

As for what I think about it... Well, I've liked space westerns enough that I've been watching Brisco County Jr., so I'll take a wild guess that I'll find it pleasant to watch.

I imagine it won't _quite_ capture the magic of the original series, and I have no idea what they're planning for where things would fit in, plot-wise (or if it's a full reboot).

Still, I expect it'll be fun enough that I'll watch it, and even if it's not great, that won't really change how good the original was.

I'm VERY disappointed!!! I was expecting a new live action show, but NOOOOO they're doing an animated show. :((

From what I've seen, it's going to fill the time gap between the end of the series and Sarenity.

    That... would make sense.

Though I wonder how much different Serenity would have been, had it not been, "...and now we have to finish off all the stories we had planned to slowly work toward over many seasons", and instead been, "we've had a good multi-season run, and now it's time to finish things off".

Regardless, they have the right actors for the job, and there's not _that_ much canon they have to worry about. So, as long as the writers are up to the job, I have high hopes.

Given his other commitments (unless they cancel the Rookie), I would take a wild guess that he probably doesn't have enough time for it, anyway.

Also, given that it's been off the air for nearly a quarter century, it's probably easier for them to voice their age 20-30s selves rather than have to deal with the fact the surviving actors are 43-56, now.

Still, given how many action heroes are in their 70s (as ridiculous as that often is), it's probably not out of the question.

They're getting the band back together for an animated series set after

Well, they're all getting older, but they can bring back Wash and Book
    that way.

I was hoping for a live-action show in real time - what would the crew
    be like 25 years later?

Yeah, I think that Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk are writing it.
Alan Tudyk wrote and shopped "Con Men" by himself, and who better to
write a character than someone who's been a custodian of that
    character for 25 years?

I imagine it won't _quite_ capture the magic of the original series,

Joss Whedon was a master at writing for ensembles, he'd be a hard act
to follow. As for the plan, it's supposed to be a continuation, set
between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie.

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk have a podcast called "Once we were
Spacemen" that's pretty interesting. They're in that initial phase of
celebrity podcasts where they interview their friends - it's mostly
been costars of Firefly/Serenity so far. Summer is retired and a
stay-at home mom, Jewel has kids, Gina continues to act - they all
seemed like they moved on nicely.

They had a live episode at a con when they announced the news, Gina
Torres made a comment that she doesn't think about her character as
she'd moved on in her career and didn't want to stay in the past - I
was hoping to hear what they thought of their characters after 25 years
    later with their current perspectives.
