the Blu-ray player I have plays DVDs as well, and it's not region set... only had it for like 10+ years and always thought it did just Blu-ray [smacks forehead] :)

As far as I know, that's true about all blu-ray players.

As far as I was always aware, all blu-ray players can play DVDs too. I don't know if I had read that somewhere or just assumed they'd be backwards compatible. It makes sense they'd be backwards compatible; otherwise, I don't think many people would want to buy/keep a separate blu-ray player and DVD player.

It can probably play music CDs too.

When I went to the UK, there are a few BluRays that only play Europe onry stuff. Which killed my joy.

That's what I thought, still that's what the docs say... I have yet to test it.

I guess many devices can be set to a specific region only. I recall the PC I had, had a DVD player you could change the region setting... but it was a 5 times max change deal and then that was it.

Nope, all BR players (including gaming consoles) play DVD just fine as well.
At least all known to me.

That's the advantage of having the media being the same size (CDs, DVDs, blu-rays, and 4K blu-rays); they can design the players to be backwards-compatible.
