Hello All,

I run a private SETI station using a radio telescope that I have built. I am curious if there is anyone else interested in the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence? I will be interfacing my radio telescope to my BBS so that it can be operated remotely and users can view the status.

I have two interests in your project - the search and then secondly how you did the technology including BBS interfacing.

boxes. I've not done that in a very long time. I've pretty much reached
the point where I doubt there's any intelligent life out there...but of
course, I could be wrong. :)

I am in the middle of rebuilding my system as we had some renovations going on at the house here. I started with a ten foot (three metre) satellite dish and I ran digital signal processing on the audio looking for narrow-band signals. The data was fed to a database where I could pull statistics and send commands to control the movement of the dish. I also had an automated mode where the system would determine which stars were in view and it could change position automatically. Right now I have a relatively small dish set up, but I will be putting a larger dish up again in the spring. The biggest stumbling block will be bandwidth requirements if distributing "work units". However, it would be easy enough to send commands via Echomail to tell my dish to change frequency and run a scan and have it auto-reply with the results. This would take some time to implement but it would be fun to design and build! I'd be willing to make my system available for such a project.

Yes, SETI at Home was a cool project but unfortunately they discontinued running the servers a while back. I really don't expect to find a signal, but I enjoy the technical challenges associated with the search. I have have been working on my radio telescope project for about six years now and am just going through yet another redesign of the system. It is in a constant state of development. :)

Hello! The software I was using to analyze the signals wasn't ideal, so there is an effort underway to make a more modern version of Digital Signal Processing using Python. In order to interface with my BBS, I used a combination of Python and Java to send control messages to a database queue. I could then process the queue to move the dish or run scans. I am currently redesigning my system and am considering options for new ways to control my dish remotely.

I don't really know anything about how it all works, best I get onto a website to read up some more to understand things further. Where is the best place to start?

I just ordered a telephone line for my BBS dialup which I am excited about as well, and I am hopefully adding Fidonet to the board this weekend. Some time I need to get the ANSI editor out and customize the board too. I am looking forward to setting up a unique experience for the BBS.

Yes, it was a bit of a challenge but I managed to get a POTS line ordered. Twice the price as a VoIP line for some reason so I have the line with no features, just dial tone (all I really need anyways). It was interesting talking to the helpdesks as some of the support agents didn't know what I was talking about, I guess because they never had a phone mounted to a wall before. LOL

It's also funny how it actually was some sort of bitcoin kicking on your hardware... the old, legitimate and socially acceptable way. Now I'd assume all that is losing attention to AI modelling using recent NVIDIA hardware...

and if there is E.T. in space.. Elon dreams to meet it first without being prepared at all :)
