• FidoNet Netmail weirdness

From CloudDancer@21:3/226 to All on Sat Jan 24 16:37:42 2026
    Hi All,

I set up a "temp" 3:770/999 node on FidoNet following Paul's YT videos. I am using AgencyBBS/HUB (3:770/1) to interact with FidoNet ...

Interesting thing is that I cannot SEND out a new FidoNet Netmail directly (it goes out, however it never reaches the recipient) ...

    HOWEVER:
I can receive Netmail addressed to me (petar smilajkov@3:770/999)
I can reply back to a Netmail sent to me (say from Pharcyde BBS), and it'll reach the recipient.

Isn't that a bit odd? New netmail out is not reaching destination, however, netmail reaches me and replies via netmail sent from me do reach the destination (original sender) ....

    Any thoughts?

Here are some examples and troubleshooting steps:

    1) I send netmail and my log shows:

Route (Petar Smilajkov@3:770/999 to Petar Smilajkov@1:154/700) via 3:770/1
So netmail out of my temp node, to me @ Pharcyde BBS, via Agency HUB ... Message does not reach the destination.

    2) I send netmail from Pharcyde
    From: Petar Smilajkov@1:154/700 (Pharcyde BBS)
To : petar smilajkov@3:770/999 (My TempEcho on FidoNet behind AgencyHub) Message is received at Silfen Path BBS

    All,

In regards to my Netmail issues w/ FidoNet via AgencyHUB, it seems that removing it all from Mystic and re-adding solved the issue...

Now suddenly, Netmail is going in and out, no problemo.

Now only to get a real FidoNet nodename assigned in Ohio and it'll be sweet!

    Tnx,

Keep in mind "temp". This is not a valid node number, and is only there for testing purposes (usually to the hub of the net it's under). It may not work any further than that.

I received two netmails from you yesterday (last night for me), from that temporary address. I didn't see them till this morning, because I wasn't sitting at my computer. I also didn't reply to them, because it's still specifically a temporary address for testing with the NC that provides that address.

It's not odd. Your netmail is working fine, so long as everyone in the path of delivery has the proper routing setup.
