Guys I really hope our power doesn't go out...Our power went out in 2002 from an ice storm like this, and it took a month for us to get our power back on. Meanwhile, old people in the area died, because they froze to death. Sometimes I hate being in N.C.

Okay, true enough, it is a significant weather event.

I guess my point is that the "news media" seems to portray this whole
thing as an apocalypse event, the absolute end of the world as we know
it. Yes, it's a winter storm and will produce <gasp> snow and ice.

Nothing real new about any of that. :-)

Completely agree! Tomorrow it will be wall to wall news coverage of the snow storm of 2026! They will replay the same video over and over again, then cut to the reporter driving around in Snowtracker 2.0 with the cameras all over it showing how deep the snow is then go back to the same video! LOL

Here in California's San Joaquin Valley, we deal with dense "tule" fog (named after the tule reed found here) with visibilities less that 200 feet.

The most snow we had here in my lifetime (6+ decades) was the last time we had snow here. The amount was 6". The date was January 25, 1999. I remember I walked to school in the snow when I was in the fourth grade, likely the early 1970's. Although I can often see snow on the Sierra Nevada if the fog lifts. Yesterday, it lifted by mid-morning and turned out to be a beautiful day in the mid 60's with a very nice view of the mountains. Good weather to mow the grass.

Everyone stay safe and warm, if possible. My son and his family live in north-central Arkansas, so they will likely experience some of it as well.

Yeah, we were talking about the "emergency" in the USA, not in
Kazakhstan, which is basically southern Siberia. I suspect that is near normal temperatures there in Kazakhstan this time of year.

Even here in the USA, I have been in lower temperatures than that, and although it can be dangerous, if you have any sense at all, it isn't.

Nothing new about any of that, as I already said.

Okay, did it again and this time get midway-ish between Toronto and
Ottawa. I grew up not far from there, actually (in the USA).

My same statements that are now snipped out still apply. Cold, but not unheard of. Carry on.
