I've created a new AI chat door that uses free open source LLM's. What is an LLM you might ask? A LLM is a Large Language Model that is an advanced AI system that understands and generates natural language, or human-like text, using the data that is has been trained on.

The door is like using ChatGPT, Grok, Copilot etc in that you ask it a question and it provides a response based on the LLM it is using at the time. The door remembers your last interactions so there is continuity and it is like holding a conversation with a human (only smarter in most cases). You can switch between local LLMs or cloud based ones. It also has the option to use paid providers like OpenAI (ChatGPT), although I have found the open source ones to be fast and return excellent results.

Please check it out on my BBS at firesidebbs.com telnet port 23231. It is in the (X) External Programs, under the BBS Utility menu, select option (9) Open AI Chat. It is still being polished, but if you like what you see and would like to possibly help me beta test it, leave me a message. I'll be creating versions for Windows and Linux (anything that can create a DOOR32.SYS). Reply with any comments please. We were talking about your other AI-powered idea for providing any information you can think to ask for. You may have thought of this already, but what if it maybe just did that query/prompt once per day or as part of some scheduled maintenance event and cached the content locally? This way it would only use up one token or whatever it is they use.

You may have thought of this already, but what if it maybe just did that query/prompt once per day or as part of some scheduled maintenance event and cached the content locally? This way it would only use up one token or whatever it is they use.

Great minds think alike. It has that feature and it can be turned on or off according to how fresh you want your data content for that particular item (you can set up multiples). Thanks for the input!

The AI chat assistant is about to go into beta testing and it's coming along pretty good. I think I have the interface where I want it now. It was kinda janky before, but it come a long ways since then. I've added scrolling (pgUp/pgDn etc) and the ability to download the conversation. I also added sysop import tools to make it easy to import from Ollama and OpenAI API lists. Some of the LLMs that are trained on multiple fields can be prompted to focus on a particular field of expertise as part of the setup in the configuration of the door. Basically telling it, "you are a rocket scientist and I need help with my physics problems" and that is the world it wakes up in when the user selects that LLM from the main menu. I added support for local LLMs too, I some running here, so you don't have to rely on the cloud at all. If you haven't checked it out lately, its on my board at firesidebbs.com:23231 under BBS Utilties option 9. Its a real time killer lol.
