Is a linux process like this processed entirely in ram until the
final output to OutputDIR:
tar cvf - -C SourceDIR . | gpg -e -r NAME - |
split -b SIZE - OutputDIR
My guess is yes BUT usually some sort of swapping to disk will be required if there isn't enough ram to process the entire output of SourceDIR before writing it to OutputDIR.
