    DoorMud (for Win32) seems to be an OpenDoors program (though I don't see
    a DLL distributed with it) and it runs with an empty console window
    (just black, no tool bar or apparent GUI controls at all). Maybe there were build options for how much GUI was enabled for the Windows
    OpenDoors apps? I don't recall off hand, but that might be a clue.

    how is the uMRC icon getting in there? they're not clibbering the .res file that gets built by win32.mak are they? (it pulls in Toolbar.bmp and has all the menus in it)

    That's added in code, as per the docs.
