so i setup newsgroups on my system again and i dont have that many that i'm polling. but i am getting this error that is tying up everything for a very very very very long time.

That messed is skipped (not downloaded) because it was crossposted to many groups (so likely SPAM). That threshold is configurable (max_newsgroups_per_article), default is 5.

is this because the article is crossposted to so many newsgroups?
this is really slowing down importing.
I don't think the skipping of articles slows anything down. More likely, you're just downloading a lot of articles or a lot of big articles. You can reducing the yield interval and length of newslink sacrificing some CPU utilization for faster downloads - "lines_per_yield" and "yield_length" - set 'em both to 0.
