• Why New Install

    From RickV@1:154/110 to All on Sat Aug 23 09:54:32 2025
    Hello everybody!

    On my Synchronet/Linux system, when I run the cfg It trys to run a new installation and not my current setup. Why would this happen? All my ini's in /crtl are intact. Is there something I can to to repair this?

    Thanks,
    RickV

    Sounds like when you try to run 'scfg' it doesn't know where to look for those .ini files.

    Try 'export SBBSCTRL=/path/to/sbbs/ctrl' before you run 'scfg'.

    See https://wiki.synchro.net/config:env for how to set it properly so you don't have to manually type it every time.

    I have it set, but went back and set it again, run scfg and the same "New Installation", so I have a problem, just not sure why? BEEN fine for months now.. but?

    Thanks,
    RickV

    Are you configuration settings in tact (name of your BBS, etc.)? If so, then you're good to go. Just complete the config wizard and the "new install" flag will be turned off automatically.

    Didn't you migrate computers or OSes or something recently? It seems you've had a lot of problems since you did that and this is just one of them.

    They all looked good. I did migrate a few months ago, but it was working normal up till today. I can't think of what I might have done, but I'm sure it must have been something I did. I did recover it back, I do a back up every night so I did a recovery of that VM and it work fine after that.

    Thanks,
    RickV

    If you complete the configuration wizard and save changes in SCFG, the "new_install" flag is cleared (set to false) automatically):

    In a fresh/new install, it's set to "true":

    $ grep -i new ../../../ctrl/main.ini
    new_install=true

    But just running "scfg" one time and saving changes, sets it to false.
