Over the past week, I finished the 7-episode limited series "Lucky":
Lucky (Apple TV) - This stars Anya Taylor-Joy, along with Timothy
Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Clifton Collins Jr., and Annette
Bening. The recurring cast includes Eric Lange (Sikowitz!!), Drew
Starkey, and William Fichtner (whom I was pleased as punch to see in
this!) playing the "Big Bad". With special guest star Alanna Ubach (Beakman's World!!) in an epie!!
ÿÿ On the Taylor-Joy front, this is the first time I've seen her
look... frankly, not great. (And it's not because for half of this show she's caked in bloody wound make-up!) I think it's a combination of the
fact that her age is catching up to her, and she's just way, way too
skinny now. In a couple of shots in this series, I was shocked at how
thin Taylor-Joy is.
ÿÿ For what this was (basically a crime/feds-and-robbers (caper?) thriller), I thought it was relatively decent. I probably liked it more
than "Furious", which I found a little too precious with its characters
and subject matter for its own good - "Lucky" is played a little more straight, though they do allow Olyphant (and to a lesser extent Taylor-
Joy, Bening and Ellis-Taylor) to chew the scenery.
ÿÿ The ending was somewhat open-ended, but still satisfying - by the
end, you get the feeling that this troubled girl might finally have her
head on straight.
ÿÿ This series was based on a book, and let's hope they leave it here
and don't try to string this out more (see, for example: Furious, which
was rather pointlessly renewed for a second season...). I get the
feeling that this did not do well enough on Apple TV for them to have
much incentive to bring this back, fortunately.
Beyond that, I've been way too busy to watch movies or much of anything else, besides soaps (GH & DOOL).
Meanwhile, still up in my streaming series queue (in no particular
order) is: School Spirits (season 3), A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,
The Ark (season 3?), and likely several others I am forgetting that have finished dropping in the last couple of months.

This is a multiday catch up. Over the past few days, I watched:
Get Out (4K disc) 2017 movie written and directed by Jordan Peele about
a man (Daniel Kaluuya) who goes to meet his girlfriend's parents
(Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener) and discovers the parents aren't
as warm and welcoming as they initially appear to be. The movie holds
up well enough.
Nope (4K disc) 2022 movie written and directed by Jordan Peele. Daniel Kaluuya stars as a man, who along with his sister (Keke Palmer) rents
horses to filmmakers. The pair discover their horse ranch is right in
the path of a nasty killer alien. So they set out to do what anyone
would, get proof of the alien on video so they can sale the video and
make money. The movie holds up well enough, but I wish the disc had a commentary track.
Him (4K disc) 2025 movie produced by Jordan Peele and starring Tyriq
Withers as a young professional football player who is injured and sent
to train and recover with an aging football idol played by Marlon
Wayans. But this being a movie produced by Jordan Peele, it turns out
things aren't what they appear, and Wither's life is in danger by an
unnatural threat. I watched with a ridiculously boring director's
commentary. I'm not sure if that affected my enjoyment of the movie or
not, but I do recall enjoying it a lot more when I saw it in the theater.
Dark Matter (AppleTV+) - "A Quiet Life" - Season 3 premier. I had *no*
idea this show was back for a second season until randomly stumbling
upon it a few days ago. Since the last episode aired over 2 years ago,
I really could have used a proper recap. But this is a streaming series
so they only did the bare minimum of recaps. The first episode had a
really good opening segment where a government agency interrogates one
of the "clones" left over from the first season, then the focus shifts, alternating between Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, who are now
living on an alternate Earth with their son, and several returning cast members from the first season. It sure would have been nice if there
was a proper recap so I could have known who those cast members were and
the context they were left in, but I was able to muddle through well
enough and figure things out from context. Anyway, I liked the opening a
lot more than the rest of the episode, but I'll stick with it to see
where things go.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Paramount+) - "Tomorrow's Enterprise" -
Season 4 finale. Uhura gets quantum entangled with her future self who
is serving on the Enterprise under Captain Kirk. The two of them must
work together to fix reality and save Scotty. It was a pretty good
finale with some nice blink, and you miss it easter eggs for fans of the original animated series.

Avengers: Endgame: Encore (theatrical) Rerelease of the 2019 movie that
picks up where "Infinity War" ends with the heroes having difficulty
coping with their recent lost to Thanos. The movie holds up great and
has a new ending and several new post credit scenes to tie the movie
into "Doomsday". This was the first time I sat through and watched the Endgame credits since it was in the theater in 2019. Those credits are
really good. I thought they were new credits made for the Encore
version, but they were the same 2019 credits.
