I began another marathon of Superstore, to have something good to
watch while I knit. I wondered if it had been too short a time

Big Brother - I have to make sure I haven't jumped into the mirror
universe. Did Taylor, Taylor who hasn't won anything all season, that
Taylor, just win something?!?
Forgotten Island (theatrical) This is a new animated movie from
DreamWorks. It's based on Philippine mythology. Although I like
animation, I don't typically go to animated movies unless it's Pixar or
a Miyazaki film. But the trailer for this caught my attention and I
reading rave reviews so I decided to check it out. Turns out it is
actually really good. The plot follows two young women who are
childhood best friends. One of them plans to leave the Philippines to
study in America but she goes out on a night on the town with her more carefree friend before saying good time. The two get sucked into a
magical island full of demons, some friendly, some not friendly and have
a wild adventure.
As a point of interest it was nice seeing a fantasy story from a
different culture that I had never seen before. I've seen lots of
stories featuring witches, dragons, ghosts, but never one about a
Manananggal. Technically a Manananggal is sort of like a vampire, but
this is a whole other culture's version of one. And this particular
version is not like any version I've seen before.
I will also mention the animation style was very vibrant and
interesting. Sort of like the Spiderverse style, but I am not a fan of
the Spiderverse style, whatever they were doing here, I actually liked.
