SHOTGUN WEDDING
A really really weird violent action film that kills lots of people on
screen but it?s a comedy! Josh Dumel and Jennifer Lopez play newlyweds soon to be at a destination wedding which is taken over by pirates. It turned
out to be a fine choice to watch on talk like a pirate day. They seem very old for these parts, especially given the people playing their parents are only like 10 years older than them. The end credits play out over Lopez
doing an absolutely horrendous cover of walk like an Egyptian. If that
gives you some idea what a strange movie this is.
The Patti Duke Show. The fire stick offered it and I watched the pilot because, well, it?s the pilot. They had a surprising amount of special effects and opticals.

I have never watched a single episode of the Patty Duke show. I had no
idea it was the type of show that would have special effects.
again I really don't know much about Patty Duke other than recognizing
her name and for a moment thinking she at Doris Day were the same
person. Looking at her filmography I don't think I've ever seen any of
her movies. Although I had hoped to one day pair "Valley of the Dolls"
with "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." But that will probably never
happen. Oh well, Que Sera, Sera.
On Friday I watched:
Resident Evil (theatrical) This a a new horror movie based on the video
game of the same name, written and directed by Zach Cregger. I have
never played the video game, but I have watched all of the Paul W. S. Anderson / Milla Jovovich movies. And I'm pretty sure those movies are
100% faithful to the games. Right? Right? I also watched the
forgettable 2021 movie, but the less said about that the better.
Anyway, this latest version, which apparently doesn't follow the plot of
any of the games, is centered around a medical courier who has to make a delivery to a hospital in Racoon City. I will cut to the chase and say
this was a really good movie. This movie may not be based on any
specific story from the game, but the overall structure did remind me of
how some video games are structured with the lead character having to advance from one, let's call it "level" to the next. Each "level" is
it's own set piece. This movie has a lot of set pieces! There aren't a
lot of characters. Everything is filmed from the point of view of the
lead. It's just him trying to survive his way to the hospital. He
walks into a situation with both the character and the audience having
no idea what to expect and it's a wild ride as tries to escape, only to
find there is no escape from the madness he's now living through. While this has no relation to the Anderson movies, I could easily see this
fitting into the continuity had it been released as a sequel to the
first one, it would simply be what was happening in and around Racoon
City during the same time period, and honestly it would have made for a
much better sequel than what we got at the time.

I'm not sure if it was on Friday or not, but I have been binging my way through "The Ark" and caught up with all the episodes. One of the
episodes had the crew in a time loop. I guess that's probably legally required for all sci-fi shows these days. And when you think about it,
time loop episodes are *cheap*. You keep the same actors and sets and
they are pretty hard to screw up.
I might do a fuller week catch up later.

one of the cousins played by a body double shot from behind.
The pilot did use special effects to show the girls and their
dads (twin brothers) at the same time. Cathy's dad never
reappeared, did he? He just parked her there and vanished.

Same here, but split-screen shots of them next to each other were
pretty common and I am pretty sure they interected (vocally) with
each other, too.

I'm certain I saw Cathy's father in the pilot, but I don't care
enough to hunt it up.
