    Yep, you knew it had to happen. Meryl Streep has been cast as the voice of the the Narnian king-- the lion Aslan in the Netflix production NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN'S NEWPHEW. Previously voiced by Liam Neeson, Netflix couldn't help itself and has gender-swapped a female voice onto a male lion. I mean, I
    assume it's still a male lion with a mane and everything. Maybe that's
    changing also. Who the fuck knows anymore?

    If I had any kind of serious literary works looking to be adapted,
    Netflix is the very last place I would take it.

    I did online marketing back in the early/mid 2000s for the Narnia
    hollywood film so I read the books and helped promote the film online and
    also got to attend the film in a red carpet screening in DC. It was a
    really good and solid interpretation of the novels. Surprisingly.

    It's not just the DEI stuff - Netflix is fully incompetent when it comes
    to putting out compelling (fictional) content quite aside from all of
    that. They just can't do it.

    Back when "Stranger Things" and "The Crown" started out (mid-2010s?),
    Netflix actually could put out at least some compelling TV shows. But
    they have clearly lost the ability since then (certainly since COVID) -
    season #1 of "The Witcher" is arguably the last "good" TV series content they've put out. Everything else has been dreck (except possibly "One
    Piece", which I have not seen...).

    There was no chance that "Narnia" was ever going to be "good" on Netflix.

    Which makes me wonder why there is such a pushback against
    the merger of Warner Brothers/Discovery joining any other
    production company that's NOT Netflix.

    Why would it be better for the industry (writers, actors,
    crew, etc.) to be stuck with Netflix and their incompetance?
    And they're going to want streaming content over theatrical
    productions, shoving the knife into theater owneres too.

    Nyssa, who never saw the sense in anyone in the industry
    preferring Netflix as a production company over a real
    movie/TV studio that's got a better track record for quality
    and stability
