What did everyone else watch?
I then turned on YouTube, which suggested The Hardy Boys Meet
Dracula. How could I say no to such a classy, high-effort
offering? This "movie" is actually a two-parter from the TV show.
We watch as Frank and Joe and Nancy meet for the very first time
after multiple prior meetings.
Joe joins a band so Frank can get
captured by Dracula, while Nancy and Bess poke around. George is
not present, and Bess was not that beautiful in the books. I
don't remember the TV show -- did Bess turn beautiful for that,
or is this a new Bess? Eh, I don't care enough to check.
The script's dumb, but I wasn't expecting anything else with a
title like that. Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy are both okay
as the Hardy brothers, at least insofar as the script allows it,
but Pamela Sue Martin and whoever played Bess were both
amateurish. I didn't notice as a kid.

I always take that as a running gag. The Odd Couple had multiple
episodes with contradictory backstories of how Felix and Oscar first
met. One accepted the discontinuity and went with the joke.

aloud. I had been saying it wrong for years.
I watched the latest Futurama, "Ocean's Three."
satire of Ocean's Eleven but three linked satires of The Love
Boat, Waterworld, and about two minutes of Gilligan's Island
followed by a blend of Gilligan's Island and Waterworld. This
wasn't good, but it was less terrible than the other recent
Futuramas.

be Dracula?
So The Ark's
not exactly a good show. The writing is as bad as ever. And the effects were pretty good the first time I saw them on Lost in Space. But the
actors have apparently decided they are now in on the joke and are just hamming it up. So the show has that going for it. And in spite of how
bad it is, the show does manage to draw me in and keep me coming back
for more. I'm invested now in finding out what's going to happen next.

If they'd ended on "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings," we're
remember it as a magnificent little gem which was cancelled too
soon. Instead they've revived it over and over to flog it for
more cash, and the legacy is tainted by all the bad years.

It was really Dracula, but almost everyone thought he was a fake.
At the end, Joe alone noticed that Lorne Greene didn't appear in
a mirror.
The show wasn't very good. It started with normal mysteries,
alternating Nancy and the Hardys, but it was such a bad show that
even kids didn't want to watch it, so they started running random
nonsense up the flagpole to see if anyone saluted.
I'm not convinced this was their first meeting. I recall several
different first meetings, each treated as if Nancy had never met
the Hardys before. This may have been the first, but if it kept
happening, does it even matter?
