I think there might be a real market for electronics that DON'T have
built in surveillance although I imagine it would cost more, even though
it should be cheaper because it doesn't have all the surveillance built
in. Another item that might sell like hotcakes is something that blocks
all the surveillance, although I'm not sure how that would work or even
if it could be built.
How is this not an illegal wiretap? All it takes is a law with some teeth that
prohibits this sort of shit. Put a corporate executive or two in prison for a couple of years when their TVs are caught doing this nonsense and it'll stop real quick.

On a related matter, I remember hearing about a case where the
manufacturer of one of those personal assistant things - Suri or one of
her sisters - was having its recordings of a murder being subpoenaed.
The company first tried to stick with their marketing line - "we don't
listen in, really we don't!" - but that was disproved rather quickly.
But I think the company was still fighting it in court. Do you know if
they ever released those recordings so that they could be used for
either a police investigation or a trial?
