Alf star Anne Schedeen dies aged 77
-----------------------------------
Alf's Anne Schedeen has died at the age of 77.
The actor, who played Kate Tanner in the NBC sitcom from 1986 until
1990, died on June 14.
In a post on Schedeen's Facebook page, her family penned: "It is
with the heaviest of hearts that we share Annie has passed
peacefully.
"She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy,
whip-smart humour, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs,
burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and
love for a good story.
"We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who
met her.
"She was a force. And it is unimaginable to think about life without
her in it. But as she said, 'I'm always with you.' And she's right.
"The memories, artwork, belly laughter, handmade jewellery, oil
paintings, sculptures, costumes, and all-round joie de vivre live
on."
The Schedeens asked fans to "raise a margarita in her honour".
Their post continued: "She is survived by beloved friends and family,
including her husband of 55 years, Christopher Barrett, darling
daughter, Taylor Barrett, daughter-in-law, Hilary Flynn, sister,
Sarabeth Schedeen, niece, Minnie Schedeen, brother, Roland "Tony"
Schedeen, sister-in-law, Julieann Schedeen, and her beloved rescue
dogs, Roo and Red.
"In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to one of Annie's
favourite causes, Habitat for Humanity.
"We all love you, Annie."
A cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Social media was flooded with tributes for Anne, who also starred in
the ABC sitcom Three's Company.
Her agent Tom Markley wrote: "Anne was a true artist and friend. One
of a kind. I'll miss her."
Morgan Fairchild, 76, who starred opposite Anne in Paper Dolls,
typed: "So sorry to hear of Anne's passing! We did series Paper Dolls
together, and she was such a lovely lady and wonderful actress!
A great loss for all.
"Condolences to her family."
And a fan wrote: "What a treasure Annie was. What a gift to so many
who knew and loved her."
Born in Portland, Oregon, in January 1949, the entertainer first
tried acting in a local theatre before she moved east to New York to
kick-start her professional career in the entertainment industry.
Anne told the Washington Post newspaper: "It was a long wait. I sold
clothes, modelled clothes, and was a shoe model. I played in summer
stock and did a commercial.
"Then I got signed by a big agent. Within a month, I had a contract
with Universal.
"I thought I'd come out here, take fencing lessons, drive a small
Thunderbird, and sit by the swimming pool. Instead, I was the daughter
on Marcus Welby, M.D."
In 1986, she was cast as Kate Tanner in Alf, which follows the titular
alien who landed in the family's garage and moved in.
Speaking of her time on the show, she recalled to People magazine:
"[It was] extremely slow, hot, and tedious.
"If you had a scene with Alf, it took centuries. A 30-minute show took
20 to 25 hours to shoot.
"Some of the actors in the cast had difficult personalities. The whole
thing was a big, dysfunctional family."
Anne's other acting credits included Magnum, P.I., mystery Murder, She
Wrote and medical drama ER, all for CBS.
