What did you watch?
I watched "The Talons of Weng-Chiang," a truly stellar Doctor Who
episode. S14 was peak Who. I'm probably going to buy the DVD, so I don't
lose access.
I have some blu-ray box sets that have been sitting on a shelf
collecting dust for years. I plan to finally crack them open and
marathon a bunch of Who later this year. I also still them on DVD, but
I *think* I upgraded all the must watch episodes to blu-ray.
But what I'm most looking forward to when I dive into them is the 1996
TV movie which is getting a new 4K release. It will include an
"uncensored" version and Dolby Atmos sound.

I watched the latest episode of MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS
I still need to get to this. Maybe tonight.
where in
we find out yet another plan to deal with the monsters. Actually
multiple plans all underway. Shaw tries to kill off the one monster
using a tool to call Godzilla which works at least in getting Godzilla
to show up. Though while the fight between the two goes on the other
parties show up with Kintaro to steal the one monsters egg.
The plan being to steal the egg so they could attract the monster to a
place of their choice. Their plan being to use the device shown in
earlier episodes as being able to amp up the anger of the monster and
then use it try and kill Kong. Then they would use the rift as a place
to store people who are suffering from a fatal disease. The idea being
they would spend days in the rift and come back years into the future
when a cure had been found to their disease.
It also seems that Kintaro somehow found out about the ability to
connect to the past. He has a plan to use the rift to travel back to
the past and save his dad.
So we have a plan to put the monster and her egg back into Axis Mundi. Another plan is to have Kong and the other creature fight and kill
each other leaving the island free to be developed as they wanted.
There is another plan to use the rift to travel into the past to save Hiroshi. Then there is Monarch plan to find a way to live with the
creatures. Lastly there is the Apex Cybernetics plan to use devices to control the monsters.
So it's unclear to me if we are actually going to get into time travel
or not but given that they've already shown it I'm going with the idea
that they will. The question is who, if anyone, will get saved? Bill
Randa, Hiroshi Randa?
What did you watch?
What am I, a week or two behind? This is a multiday catch-up. Over the
past week or two I watched:
Ray Harrenhausen movies. I won't list them all, but the Gulliver,
Mysterious Island, Sinbad, and Clash of the Titans movies. Kerwin
Mathews starred in three of them ("Jack the Giant Killer" wasn't a Harrenhausen flick, but close enough). The commentary tracks also
talked a lot about Bernard Herrmann who did a lot of the scores for
these movies. Listening to the commentary tracks talk so much about
Herrmann and various falling outs he had towards the end of his career, including with Alfred Hitchock, reminded me I have a Hitchcock box set
with a bunch of movies I still haven't gotten around to watching, so
that's on the watch list now too.
I finished off this season of Invisible. It was excellent as usual.
I've been watching The Boys.
I pulled out my blu-ray of the old sci-fi series, "Firefly" and watched
the pilot movie and the first episode. I may watch a few more. I
mostly just wanted a refresher before watching the movie, which I
haven't gotten to yet.
And on Friday I watched:
Lord of the Flies (blu-ray) 1963 movie based on the famous novel. It
follows a group of British school children who are stranded on an
island. At first they act civilized and vote "Ralph" to lead them. But
over time "Jack" uses everyone's fear of an imagined "monster" to take control. Things escalate to murder when they kill "Piggy" while he is
trying to talk sense into them. The movie holds up well enough, but it
was mostly background noise while I listened to the director's commentary.
Voyagers (4K disc) 2021 sci-fi movie bout a group of teens who are on a mission to colonize a distant planet. At first they act civilized with "Christopher" as their leader. But over time "Zac" uses everyone's fear
of an imagined "alien" to take control. Things escalate to murder when
they kill "Phoebe" while she is trying to talk sense into them. The
movie holds up well enough, but I think I maybe saw this same plot
before or read it in a book once.
Anyway, there is a "Lord of the Flies" TV series debuting next week on Netflix. Maybe I'll give it a watch.
