Every Winnipegger knows that - it's well covered in winter weather
    reports.

I was once in the Winnipeg public library on January where I was in
the public reading room (which is a great room including a very long
picture window) and reading a book on the German/Soviet campaign of
1941 that had an interesting feature - on the top corner of every page
had a date and temperature showing the temperature around Moscow
    during the campaign.

I looked out the window and said "Hmmm. It's colder than that on the
    opposite side of that window!"

(In those days any trip to Winnipeg airport any time other than
mid-winter meant you would see 100-200 German soldiers waiting for the
bus that would take them to CFB Shilo near Brandon, MB about 60 miles
W of Winnipeg for tank training - the point being Brandon is very flat
and has large areas of farmland in addition to the army base. The
Germans liked it a lot for tank training since there were far fewer
people than would have been in the same area in Germany)

Heh. I remember in the 80's the distance between towns in Germany was described as "one tactical nuke apart". Meaning that if you dropped a tac-nuke each on neighboring towns the blast/destruction radii would
    just about meet.

So drop it between towns and get two for one
