    Hi Lynn,
    You like to talk about the problems with batteries in Electric Vehicles. Here is some bad news. By the way it should be noted that
    the problem is arising from small independent companies that are
    unlicensed for the very serious work.

    I hope you will move for legislation to prevent this sort
    of battery chop shop from arising in the USA.

    This is pretty typical of China... it is very much the wild west with
    regard to industrial pollution, much the way the US was in the forties
    and fifties.

    I have said here before that I can get PC boards made in China for about
    a tenth the cost of having them made in the US, and the difference is not labour. Almost all of the price difference is in waste disposal. In
    China they just pour all the heavy metal-saturated acids down the drain,
    but it costs a lot to stabilize them in the US.

    Some people currently in office believe that the solution here is to remove environmental regulations to allow the US to compete better with China,
    but having seen Pittsburgh as a child I don't think that is a good idea. --scott

    Even in California, USA the chip companies managed to pollute the Silicon Valley water table. I visited LA several times in my distant
    youth and I hated the air pollution. It may be better now than it was
    and even in Northern California including the SF Bay Area we have
    bad air days. And Commodore Business Machines managed to produce a very polluted area around the plant where they made the chips for the C=64
    and the other early models.

    The acids could be stabilized more cheaply if the plant is close
    to a lime stone quarry.

    But better processes are needed to reduce that sort of pollution
    and I am pretty sure it is possible.
