Downbelow Station is a great read but I consider it very different from
Angel Station. Although the setting was in similar Space and conflicts
from similar sources, Original Earth vs Space Colonies, the major
difference is from perspective and plot.
Entertaining Angel's main focus was from desperate, pragmatic
individuals having action adventures, personal wars, whereas Serious
Downbelow is from people in power, representatives of organisations
mainly considering greater matters than their own survival with their organisations at war or directly affected by war.
Another immediate difference was writing style. Angel begins at a fast
pace and keeps going. The first 20 to 25% of Downbelow was mainly
exposition and it wasn't till about a third of the way through that it
picked up and now, over the halfway mark, I am having a treat.
I see that there another six books following Downbelow Station and that
she has been a prolific writer. Has anybody a favourite or two?
