Solace House by Will McLean.
A group of poor students, (without rich parents to send them overseas
for university holidays), are employed by the university to tidy a
recent purchase, an abandoned multi storied mansion filled with hoarded
rubbish accumulated by some ancient madman who believed the property was situated between realms, whose occupier had special powers.
The characters and their relationships with others and each other are thoroughly detailed and form the most of the book. The work is dirty and boring, newspapers, magazines and other hoarded rubbish appear to fill
the whole mansion. Some do less work, some keep items of value that
should be disclosed, there are arguments, there is mistrust....
Fascinating. Right to the end. Highly recommended. Four stars.
