Many of the eighteen wheelers around here are now using six inch spikes
for their lug nuts on their wheels now.

Remeinds me of an Alan Dean Foster story, was it "Why Johnny Can't
Speed"?

I've always thought that panels/bumbers with shaped charges designed
to blow up the other vehicle were the obvious answer.
Note that I don't drive. I don't even use a vehicle unless I need to
get someplace far far away. I walk everywhere I go.

So no armor plating to protect you from the vehicles you are walking >alongside of when their shaped charges go off. :P

I don't walk down the middle of the street. And if some vehicle does
set another vehicle's charges off, that vehicle will shield me.
The actual problem is, of course, that this would be very illegal.
