Back in September (24, 25), and again in early November (4, 5, 6) I
experienced some interesting, hitherto-unseen, phenomena on my TV
while playing DVDs with my BD Player:

Horizontal black lines in the image displayed.
Reset of the VGA to S-Video converter (which, for a more normal setup,
might have appeared simply as a momentary black screen from a lack of
signal -- something that would have reset the convertor when the
signal resumed).

those were seen on all five days.

3. Blue flashes in addition to black lines.
4. Sound disruption.
5. Pink/pixillated image until BD Player controls (Pause then Start)
were used to correct this.

those were seen once each, on separate occasions from each other but
not from the black lines/signal break.

The last two seem to me to implicate the BD Player, as VGA does not
have pins for sound, and the rest is basically cables and devices
mapping pins to pins on the various connectors. I would expect a
failure on /that/ level to keep on until the offending item was
replaced, but the black lines etc stopped entirely between September
26 and November 3 and after November 7 till last night.

I did find an article about a major solar disturbance for early
November.

It will be interesting to see if similar effects occur tonight.

Note: since this has not happened before, it is possible that
something has changed: the BD Player, for example, may be slowing
aging out; or the power grid has been strengthened in a way that keeps
it from actually dying but makes the power behave oddly.

Either that, or there simply haven't been any solar storms of this
magnitude since ... well, potentially as long as I have used discs (25
years or so).

Or, of course, what I am seeing is totally unrelated to solar
activity.

a Great Bay in the Central Valley of California. After a century or so
of flooding
it will have washed all the agricutural poisons out to sea and will be
useful for
fishing if the temperature of the water permits fish to live in the
Great Bay.

I thought Katrina had already done that.

Katrina did a lot of things, but remove Louisiana and replace it with
a bay was not one of them.

As Peter Schickele says at one point, "something else will have to be
found".

One of the things it did was force me to download an image of my final
pay statement when I retired. The IRS had switched to the Dept of
Agriculture payroll system some years before, and the DA pay system
was located in ... southern Louisiana.

Lacking self-control, he lacks /all/ control. Something that will

And starving his own voters isn't going to help next year. (One of our
Eastern Washington counties, which reliably elects Republican
Representatives, has 36% of its population dependent on SNAP. That's a
lot of staunch Republican voters who had no money to purchase food
starting 11/1/25. And their neighbors, friends, and relations.)

Our Governor moved some money around so the correct State agency could
provide grants to food banks to help out, but rural counties are
rather ... thin ... on food banks.

Apparently, this crime against humanity is expected to reverse itself
soon. And may have already, for all I know. And it is nearly a year
until the 2026 election, so there is time for the Republicans to pull
a victory out of the hat.

The surest way to do that is to impeach and convict Trump and, if that
doesn't work, Vance (in both cases barring them from ever holding
public office as per the Constitution) and get someone sane in, thus
earning the gratitude of the Nation. But the clock is ticking, and
they need to start /now/.

Rising water levels will make a Gulf of North America and eventually
a Great Bay in the Central Valley of California. After a century or so
of flooding
it will have washed all the agricutural poisons out to sea and will be useful for
fishing if the temperature of the water permits fish to live in the
Great Bay.
