They are calling this a Ring of Fire novel (Assiti Shards) .
I guess Assiti Shards is a new explanation of the trips to the past.
Shortly after the Death of Alexander the Great, the cruise ship
Queen of the Seas arrived in the past. It founded New America
on the Island of Trinidad and dropped a lot of the original
    passengers
there to help re-create and create industries from the future as best
they can. We follow a lady working on making clear glass for
    lenses and
other useful items. They come up with indentured servitude to get
useful craftsmen from the Mediterranean societies which hold slaves.
Every slave taken aboard the Queen of the Seas becomes free. The
powers are given rides aboard the Queen of the Seas for a reasonable
price and include all of the powerful women and some of the more
powerful former members of Alexander's Army including the Silver Shields
who become the bodyguards and police force of the Queen of the Seas.
The powers aboard the Queen forge a constitutional Empire and
pick Eumenes as the Strageos or General of the Empire and his task
is to bring the Satraps of the Empire who reject this
    Constitutional Empire
    under control
Another ship the Relliant is at hand and is converted to a gun boat
capable of destroying a fleet of contemporary craft if necessary.
We are treated to a story of Eumenes and Philip the autistic who is
not stupid as Eumenes tries to settle matters with a variety of
    enemies
namely Cassander. Well Philip advances and but that wouild be giving
away too much, The next book should deal with Antigonus One-Eye
    in Babylon.
So I am possibly not part of the intended audience but apart from
some quibbles with nautical terminology I enjoyed this story very
    much
much. There are other books in this series. It is so sad that
    Eric Flint has
passed away. Thursday, 6 November 2025
