"Heirs of Empire (Dahak)" by David Weber
ÿÿ https://www.amazon.com/Heirs-Empire-Dahak-David-Weber/dp/0671877070/
Book number three of a three book space opera series.ÿ I reread the well printed and bound MMPB published by Baen in 1996.ÿ This is my favorite
SF series of all time as I have reread it six or ten times now.ÿ In
fact, the binding of my book has broken since I have read it so many
times.ÿ This book has sadly has gone out of print as a standalone book.
But, the omnibus is still available as a new book:
ÿÿ https://www.amazon.com/Empire-Ashes-David-Weber/dp/141650933X/
I do not know why this is my favorite SF series of all time.ÿ I think
that I like the standup position of the chief protagonist, Colin the
First.ÿ Or that there are so many different species of intelligent space races.ÿ Or that the book is written so tightly, especially when compared
to Weber's later works.ÿ Or that an self aware artificial intelligence shares the main protagonist job in the book, much like Heinlein's "The
Moon Is A Harsh Mistress".
I keep on hoping that David Weber will write more books in the Dahak
series but, I doubt it.ÿ He did write the Safehold series which is along
the same lines as this book, overpowering space aliens and self aware artificial intelligences.ÿ BTW, there is an ending to the Safehold, Honorverse, and Dahak series that David Weber wrote as joke:

Here is my 2012 review of the book: "OK, time for my biennial rereading
of the Dahak series.ÿ You want space opera, I've got your space opera
right here.ÿ You want milsf, I've got your milsf right here.ÿ The series
is well written and tight unlike Weber's later verbose efforts.ÿ Not
bad, just verbose."
"This is my favorite SF series of all time.ÿ I'm waiting for it to be continued but I am losing all hope.ÿ To me, the "Off Armageddon Reef"
series is just a reworking of this series done in a more verbose way.
I'm sure that Weber will deny that but after all, he is the author of
both."

I agree with you on all points.
But I'm not seeing much of a review here. Isn't it traditional to at
least mention a few plot points?

Thenks for tat link. Brings a tear to the eye, though whether it'd be a
tear of thanks, relief or laughter remains open.
Hmmm,
Safehold -ÿ Admiral Nimue Howsmyn etc.
Dahak - Senior Fleet Admiral Ninhursag MacIntyre, Dahak IV-class etc.
Bolo - Mark XLVI.
Furies - Admiral DeVries
War God - General Bahnakson, Toman?k-class transport
Can't find a reference to Honorverse though?

Not for Lynn. He's more interested in the quality of the
binding.
Note that he has posted this review every three months for
the last decade or so.
Plot: Authorial wish fulfilment space opera.
(Yes, I enjoy the series myself, although the third volume
has a very similar plot to the the first Prince Roger book
and one of the Safehold volumes).
