I am 1/2 way through 1632.  Doing fine with it.
I had earlier picked up for a pittance quite a few of the
Ring of Fire series at library discard sale.
But figured I better start, at the start = 1632.

Sensible of you foolish of the library since if the series' popularity
continues to climb they will have to buy more copies sooner or later.

It is an interesting practice of our library system.
They estimate popularity and demand of a book.
They intentionally buy enough of the popular books
to not have long wait times of the patrons.
And then, after the initial demand dies down,
    they discard.

Perhaps a higher expense that many would want,
but the bond issues keep passing,,,, so?

As a matter of fact when you go to the Amazon or other source
you will find used copied at low prices. I got the sole item in the series
that I have purchased in such a manner and it is marked in stamped
ink "Withdrawn' and it had a typical old-fashioned library slip holded
inside the front cover. Pretty sure that was during the extreme
Covid-19 restrictions when the SFPL was closed and before they began
to have checkout of online ordered books at the Western entrance.

When I was much younger and frequented the Sacramento Public
Library we had lots of older volumes on the shelves both factual and
Fantasy such as the whole History of Manuel by James Branch Cabell
and ancient texts on Archery from when it was a mandatory exercise
in Merrie Old England. I used to read those things and S.J. Perleman's
humorous books but I would have a hard time doing that in the much
more expansive San Francisco Public Library and it is only 75 years
    later.

    bliss

I remember some years ago that our local public library announced not
everyone who wanted to "read" Madonna's "Sex" would get to as the book
was poorly bound and that while they had 25 copies, if everyone kept
it for a week given the usual wear and tear the bindings would fail
    before everyone got the chance.
