This link does not bring up the article, causing confusion.

The insistence that everything is getting better and better is typical
of Modernism, which, in some quarters, survived WWI and died after
    WWII.

Has anyone else wondered what the "wearable medical monitoring
devices" are intended to look like? A mark, perhaps, on the hand or
    forehead?

One of the books on Revelation I read within living memory identifies
the Beast with all of modern learning and technology, but identifies
the second beast as the propaganda department and the Whore as
advertising. Since Trump's efforts appear to be aimed at, as Disney
has Stromboli saying, "pushing you in the public's eye", that would
make the Orange Taco -- the Whore of Babylon.

But I don't think this line of thought is particularly helpful.

Mildly amusing, but people may take it seriously
    and misread it.

But I've probably mentioned before that Donald Trump
and several prevous U.S. presidents have had a
rugged personal car called "The Beast". Riding the
Beast corresponds with being "the Whore of Babylon".
This Babylon reference probably was meant to be
ancient Rome, the time when it was the United States
may really have passed, but then that's the point:
Babylon is not what she was.

That is the more common interpretation.
That book, which may actually have been placed on the shelf after
reading instead of in a box, was very different from most. But I read
so many one right after the other that it is hard to be sure where it
    is.
I think it is the one written (based on internal evidence) in the late
30's, and published (the edition I have, anyway) in the late 40s/early
50s and praised for how well it was done (this was, presumably, a
reaction to the war-time restrictions [1] on books in the USA).
[1] I have a few that were published during the war: thinner paper,
thinner hard covers, reduced margins and other space-saving efforts to
require fewer pages ... the Army needed a /lot/ of paper to win the
    war.
