Master Trader Shan yos'Galan is taking the main Korval space ship, the
"Dutiful Passage", with its crew of hundreds

Do you actually _read_ the Liaden stories? Or just the summaries on
    liars social?

Where has the crew of the Dutiful Passage ever been described
    as being in the 'hundreds'?

Just an impression as 17 ??? of the crew departed at one of the planets visited. The "Dutiful Passage" is also configurable as a warship with
many war modules replacing its cargo modules. If you have ever worked
in 24x7x365 facilities as I did for several years, I was always amazed
at the number of people involved in running the plants.

It's an interesting question. I think we know all of Bechimo's crew and
it's probably about a dozen, but he is a small ship. Dutiful Passage
is much larger, and, as mentioned, armed, but then again modern container ships are said to have crews of 20-30 and they are pretty big. I think it's safe to say at least that we haven't been introduced to all of DP's crew onscreen.

Can I state that a modern container ship and a huge space ship, probably
in the range of a mile to ten miles long, are two different levels of complexity ?

After all, the container ship uses Earth's air. The space ship will
have to generate air for the humans to breathe. The container ship uses combustion engines using fuel and using air from the atmosphere.
Spaceships will probably use a fusion drive. On and on for the
different levels of complexity. And DP has a dedicated security force
which container ships do not generally have.

IIRC, most of DP's fighting modules are kept in a secret location. They
are not carried by DP all the time, that space is reserved for cargo.

I had never really thought about it as that large, but a fandom wiki
does make it sound rather grand:

    https://liaden.fandom.com/wiki/Dutiful_Passage

I suspect the DP is on the size of the cargo ships in the Honorverse
which are huge also and can accelerate at up 100 ??? gravities plus go
    through wormholes.

On what basis do you belive that? The Dutiful Passage was a pod
carrier - which is really no different than a modern
    container ship.

The economics (such as they are in science fiction) would seem
to favor just picking up and dropping off pods. Most of which
would be automated. Economics wouldn't favor large crews with
the attendant food, energy, and waste disposal requirements.

_Alliance of Equals_ names 25 individuals as members of the DP crew. One might had been a replacement for another, which means the absolute
minimum is 24 (except their positions names looked a bit top heavy to
me). _Conflict of Honors_ names 11 individuals, but also states that
there were 48 crew members in all.

Cool, less than I thought. Any dependents of the crew ?

The largest current container ship class, the MSC Irina, is just
    under 400 meters long - that's less than 1/4 of a mile.

It has a crew of 35, and carries over 24,000 containers.
