I found this on Kindle, bought it, and read the (new) Introduction.
Based on that, I think I will like this book.

[ But it will have to wait until after the current read. Mrs. vallor
and I are currently reading a book together, our "book club of two".
She wanted a mystery, I wanted SF, and told her there were SF
mysteries. So we're reading _The Patchwork Girl_ by Larry Niven.
I'm enjoying the re-read (even though I know the ending), but I'm
really looking forward to her reaction once she's read it. ]

You might also want to try: "My Real Children" by Jo Walton

Two separate universes for the same British woman. One universe where
she married and had children, the other universe where she never married
    and never had children.

Depending on the sort of mystery she likes and the sort of SF you like,
I tentatively recommend the The Midsolar mysteries by Mur Lafferty.
