It seems to be somewhat of another Hollywierd fad to make franchise
shows based around one character. The Star Wars franchise is possibly
the touchpaper for this idea with shows like "Star Wars: Obi-Wan
Kenobi", "Star Wars: Andor", "Star Wars: Ahsoka", "Star Wars: The Book
of Boba Fett". Now the Star Trek franchise seems to be jumping on the bandwagon with "Star Trek: Picard", "Star Trek: Khan" (audio drama),
    and a few rumoured shows.

I hope Hollywood doesn't get its hands completely on "Doctor

    Doctor Who: Davros
    Doctor Who: Master
    Doctor Who: Donna
    Doctor Who: Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
    Doctor Who: The Terrible Zodin

    (Etc.)

There are rumours of a more spin-off shows. Among others are one based
around UNIT (i.e. Lethbridge-Stewart) and another based around the
    Daleks (so could include Davros).

Of course, there were rumours a few years ago about a spin-off show
based on teh Doctor's clone daughter. It never happened as a TV series,
but has happened as a Big Finish audio drama.

Of course, it's not just sci-fi franchises doing this either.

Batman has had the "Pennyworth" TV series based around Alfred, "The
Penguin" TV series, and the "Joker" movie. As well as "Gotham"
    following a younger Jim Gordon.

Amazon pitched a tv series "007: Miss MoneyPenny", which the Broccoli
family said no to, but with Amazon now in full charge this show might
get made ... it'll be "really exciting stuff" to see her making the
tea, typing up the reports, transferring phonecalls, ... :-\

The up-coming movie "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum".

The list of shows and movies jumping on this bandwagon is growing. Once Hollyweird start on a fad, then keep doing it until they run it into
the ground. (Is anyone actually still watching "The Simpsons"? It was
past its use-by-date years ago, yet they keep stretching it out.) :-\

There was a short list of a handful of actresses. Bujold got the part and lasted two days.
It then came down to, which of the remaining actresses answered the phone. Wagner and Joanna Cassidy were out. Mulgrew didn’t have anything to do
that day so she answered the phone. She got the job and made them change
the characters name to her own so she wouldn’t miss her cues.
