More proof it's another continuity, another timeline all together.
That was clear from the beginning of DSC (and SNW).

I hate to defend STD, but doesn't it take place before Captain Kirk's time?

The first two seasons do. And after 'The Cage'.
But it is very clear that technology is very more advanced than what we
    know from TOS.
For instance holographic communication of a type that was introduced in
the later seasons of DS9, in the 24th century. Here in Discovery we see
it being used from the first episode on.
Another example is intraship beaming. We learn from 'Day of the Dove' it
is very dangerous and ill advised. Yet, on the USS Discovery it is
    something they do regularly.
Than the Enterprise. She looks better than the Kelvinverse version, but
    it is clearly different.

From the third season on, the Discovery is transported to the 32d
    century. I haven't seen seasons 4 and 5.

Over at 'Strange New Worlds' we have a situation where we learn that in
their timeline (and thus Discovery), Khan was not active in the 1990s,
as he was in TOS, but in the 21st century. They say it is due to the
temporal cold wars etc., but a change that significant signals to me it
is like as different as the Kelvinverse, so another timeline. But that's
my personal take. The official word is that it is still the Prime
Timeline. But I really don't agree with that.

Even TNG isn’t in the TOS timeline since Data got the Earth date wrong in the first season episode “ The Neutral Zone”

Yes. That's when they began to slide.
