Knight Rider itself is basically a rip-off of numerous other "one

Harsh, but I actually prefer his Fringe to its "inspiration" The
X-Files. It managed not to lose the plot like Lost did and had a proper ending.

Although JarJar Abrams name was stuck on it, the show was really created
and run by Jeff Pinkner and Joel Howard Wyman. This often happens where
a "big name" is stuck on a product they really have very little to do
with. (Another example is "Tiny Toon Adventures" which has Steven
Spieberg's name stuck on it.) At best they usually just rubber-stamp the real workers' ideas.

Pretty much ALL of "Abrams" productions rely on others to make them
work. JJ throws out an idea and the subsequent success or failure is entirely dependent on how others execute it.
