Remember when we used to get excited about Star Wars? We would cheerfully tell each other May the Fourth Be With You on May 4th? No? Me neither...I'm trying to, and yet I keep on thinking about all the horrible, unwatchable garbage that has been shoved down my throat, and when I go to say "May the Fourth Be With You", the words get stuck in my throat. I consider May the 4th a remembrance day for Starwars, that we lost an IP by Ideologues and and Greedy bean counters. May we grieve and remember the good times we had.

common store of material that anybody could draw on for their own

Star Wars hasn't been the same since George Lucas sold it to Disney

George Lucas' own ideas for the sequel trilogy weren't much better than
the Disney garbage we got.

With the Politically Correct idiot Kathleen Kennedy partly-gone from Lucasfilm, "Star Wars" might come back, but it's likely too late now
because the damage has already been done. :-(

Disney's deal with the BBC also hastened the destruction of "Doctor
Who", although the BBC's own Political Correctness idiocy had already
started flushing that franchise down the toilet.
