As it's a quiet news day here at Blueshirt HQ,
here's a link to RTD's interview for The Big
    Issue, published today.

Of course, the showrunner of Doctor Who doesn't
actually say anything about Doctor Who! BUT, he
does have a new show coming out on C4...

    Oh! No!!

I think it's great that RTD is making new shows that suit
his particular tastes... hopefully when "Doctor Who" returns
somebody else is making it because he's so busy with his solo
    projects.

Although at this stage it's possible it won't make much of a
    difference anyhow...

That would be great. When he had Torchwood for that stuff, DW was
better. If we could somehow get a normal showrunner who actually liked
    DW, that would be ideal.

    Under RTD!

    More bullshit.

RTD brought "Doctor Who" back from the dead after your hero
killed the show off... and it became HUGE again. So RTD was on
the right track. But you know what they say, sometimes you can
return to the well once too often. RTD would have done better to
stay away from the show after Chris Chibnall left and just
concentrate on making niche C4 dramas which is something he
seems to be very good at.

"Doctor Who" DID work, even when RTD brought the show
back in 2005... it became a massive success once
    again... unfortunately successive showrunners decided
to turn the show into their own political soap-box and the
    entertainment level went down accordingly.

    And then RTD backed Chibnall.

They are long term friends... what else did you expect?

I asked you a similar question back in 2022 when you were of
the opinion that RTD was the coming saviour and I tried to
point out how 'modern' RTD was in his views. He was never
going to undo a female Doctor. As I said at the time ... it
would send the wrong signal. And RTD was NEVER EVER going to
send the wrong signal! It was delusional for anyone to
    think otherwise.

If RTD was in touch with the audience,
he would have ditched the timeless child overall!

RTD writes for himself, this has been stated by him in "The
Writers Tale". He does not give a damn what the fans think.

In fact, I reckon he takes great delight in annoying them as
    much as he can...

This attitude is a good hedge against pandering to the fans' immediate
wants. People who write what fans want end up producing crap. There are
always more people who want crap than who want something more complex,
but the crap doesn't provide foundation for later shows.

This attitude, on the other hand, is bad. It's at its worst when the
show starts making fun of its own fans.

One of the best approaches I've seen turns out to be the traditional
approach: a showrunner tries to create art under constrait, while a
higher authority (the network) applies occasional rules and correction
to keep it from spiraling into unaccessibility. The tension between the
drive to make art and the need to attract viewers was the sweet spot for better TV.
