SEASON 2 - EPISODE 5 - THE STORY AND THE ENGINE
Not as bad as SPACE BABIES. Not as good as THE WELL.
Confusing and invigorating in equal measure THE STORY AND THE ENGINE
takes us to a barber shop that is in two places at once. It is on Earth
in Nigeria, as well as in space on the back of a giant spider. The Dr
and Belinda Chandra have landed in Lagos, where a shadowy Barber has
ensnared innocent souls and is stealing their tales for sinister ends.
The episode then becomes a tale of gods and monsters using stories as
fuel for the engine that drives the spider-ship.
The Fugitive Dr is back too! For a brief moment. In a scene that felt a
bit awkward to me, both in how it was presented and what it means for Dr
Who lore. Does the doctor now remember the pre-Hartnell era? Did he
sneak a look at the fob watch from FLUX when we wasn't watching? Or was
it the barber shop spilling the doctor's past from his story that
triggered the doctor's memories? At the beginning of the episode the
doctor says to Belinda “My body changes a lot. It’s the first time I’ve had this Black body.” In which case, how come the Fugitive Dr also has
a black body? I'm not quite sure what this scene means. Does the doctor remember his past or not? Maybe it isn't that significant. Or perhaps it
is. Regardless, it felt a little clunky to me.
Mrs Flood is also back. Blink and you will miss her. I'm not sure if
these brief cameos are clever or just annoying. I am leaning towards the latter at this moment in time. We'll have to see how they all pull
together at the end of the season. On top of that, we also have a
shadowy child following Belinda Chandra, from the cast list at the end
it seems this child's name is Poppy. Interesting!
Dr Who showcases a visual evolution since the Disney investment but ultimately seems to prioritise style over substance in the grand scheme
of things. With only three episodes left of the season it's going to be
fun watching Russell Davies pull all of his threads together into a
coherent finale. Just as well the finale is two episodes, he might need
it. I’m not sold on Dr Who becoming a fairy tale driven series either.
Or the mythology and god references. I do like some science in my
science fiction.
Six out of ten, mainly because the episode looked really good and the
doctor was the main focus this week.
The True loon displayed less and less logic:
It's most likely that the DEI hire that wrote this episode wanted to use
it to spread his racist agenda, failing to mention that Gatwa's own
ancestors mutilated and murdered each other in Rwanda despite all of
them being black,
Why would they mention the _actor’s_ ancestors?
When Pertwee played the Doctor, was there any mention of
him being descended from French nobles? Did the Capaldi era
explain why a family with a Mediterranean surname were living
in Scotland? Did we get a detailed family tree showing how
Tom and Colin Baker weren’t related?
Of course not. The actor isn’t the character. Why do you find this so hard to understand?
The actor isn’t the character. Why do you find this so hard

Why would they mention the _actor’s_ ancestors?
Because the entire episode was about Gatwa being black,
No.
The episode was an allegory about how AI is transforming the>creative arts. The business about the Doctor being black was
just there to add a bit of colour (no pun intended) with an
unusual setting.
so of course
they have to mention his ancestors and the genocide they carried out
against each other instead of the woke hypocrites blaming all white
people as being the racists.
You did notice that the villain in this story was black, didn’t you?

Yes it was.

It had nothing to do with AI. Did you not see Gatwa's lecture at the
start about him not feeling accepted in white countries because of his
skin colour, or did you not understand it?
And if that had been all there was to the episode, you might have
a point.
However, there were also other things going on in the episode. Things
that had nothing to do with the lead actor’s skin.
There was a character called the Barber. He used to be a
story teller. He told stories the old fashioned way for thousands
of years. Just like people have been creating stories and art
the old fashioned way for thousands of years.
Then he created the nexus web and the story engine to artificially
combine and reassemble stories for him to make his job easier.
Just like AI bots trawl the web for data and recombine it in
new ways. (The Barber even literally refers to the nexus as the
World Wide Web at one point; this isn’t exactly subtle!)
Eventually the story engine means the old storyteller was no
longer needed. Just as some people are worried that AI will
put creative artists out of work.
He wants to destroy it, but it’s too late. Instead he’ll just have
to learn to live with it. Just as… well, you get the idea.
Did you really miss all that because you were busy obsessing over
the colour of one man’s skin?
You did notice that the villain in this story was black, didn’t you?
Like I said, the story was all about being black.
Make up your mind! First you said it was all about Gatwa being
black. Now it’s apparently about someone else being black. Which
is it?
And that was all there was to the episode. It was degenerate
woke messaging
This was a childish attack on the Internet to create yet
another woke false narrative because anyone that uses the
Internet is able to easily expose their lies, deceptions and
rewriting of history and literature by looking up the original
sources, and the woke can't stop them.
As usual the infantile woke writer is incapable of debating
this logically and rationally so attacks the Internet without
giving reason and then renames his world wide web to the
cosmic nexus, which illustrates it had nothing to do with the
internet to begin with.
It seems you are the one who missed everything because of your
obsession with acting as an apologist for woke propaganda.
Remember the lessons I have taught you. The woke only want to
write about themselves and their own perversions and personal
messages, and this story is yet another embodiment of this
degenerate philosophy as have been all the other episodes in
the series.

To any regular reader of RADW every episode of Doctor Who seems
to be "degenerate woke messaging".

Your homework lesson for next week is to write your episode
review of "The Interstellar Song Contest" without using the word
'woke' in it... consider it a challenge to keep yourself
entertained, as clearly watching Doctor Who doesn't entertain
you any more.

Doctor Who ended in 2017. I am not going to enter you web of

You missed missed the deeper allegory because you kept getting
distracted by surface details. (Literally “surface” details, the actor’s skin.)
You need to put aside your obsession with race and politics and
see what was actually in the episode.
Racism is bad. Slavery is bad.
That’s “degenerate woke messaging”? So you’re in favour of
slavery now?
Homosexuality is what what everyone must submit to.
But the Fugitive Doctor _didn’t_ submit to homosexuality. She
refused to marry Abby.
Congratulations! You literally got the exact opposite of what
happened in the episode!
The moment the fakes came on is the moment we weere cryig to
see Love and Monsters.
The True loon is trying hard to lose the argument:

You missed missed the deeper allegory because you kept getting
distracted by surface details. (Literally “surface” details, the

There was no deeper allegory other than the fact that the story
represented the perverted mind of the author and his moral degeneracy.
Closing your eyes and ignoring the real facts won’t make them
go away.
Face it, you’re just not very good at spotting allegory. Remember how
you completely missed the one in Eaters Of Light because you
were distracted by a character’s sexual orientation and skin
colour.
(* SNIP *)
But the Fugitive Doctor _didn’t_ submit to homosexuality. She
refused to marry Abby.
And it was considered bad that she didn't marry her.
Abby thought it was bad, because being the daughter of
a god made her selfish and entitled. Belinda persuaded Abby
that she was wrong and needed to let it go.
But even without Belinda’s intervention, whenever there’s a
disagreement between the Doctor and a guest character, it’s
generally safe to assume the Doctor’s right and the other one
is wrong.
You are the one who failed to understand the message. The woke want you
to accept their sick and degenerate sexual advances and perversion
without questioning them and their morality, especially children. Their
whole entire movement was created in order to promote homosexuality and
legalise sex with minors because the whole of Hollywood, the
entertainment industry, and media is full of sex obsessed perverts and
pederasts. Look at Roman Polanski, Jimmy Saville and Huw Edwards.
IMHO in expect that in percentage terms, the proportion of
celebrities who are child abusers is probably more or less the
same as the general population. It’s just that we notice the
celebrity ones more because, well, they’re celebrities.
You claim to be interested in statistics, so I’m surprised you
hadn’t thought of that yourself.
The first casualty of war is the truth.

Well obviously a Doctor that is black AND female is too much
for some people to handle... but if you prefer "Love and
Monsters" it must only be because a paving slab is the
closet you can get to not having to play with yourself.

We are discussing a TV show... not planning a war. It's this
attitude that shows how stupid some fans are. They believe
they ARE fighting a war and every discussion has to be an
argument.
We all like "Doctor Who" or we wouldn't be here... but we all
have our own likes and dislikes about the show. There's
nothing wrong with that. Doctor Who fandom is a broad
church. It's the constant bitching about the show and
wanting to see it cancelled that I have an issue with, as no
fan should want to see a show they claim to be a fan of
cancelled. It makes the term 'Doctor Who fan" an oxymoron.
Give that at least 6 groups of DW fans are identified ...
