Have you tried using NovaBBS on your browser - as opposed to
an Android app - to access Usenet? People say it works well
on tablets, I'm not sure about the smallness of a mobile
phone screen for reading Usenet via it though. But NovaBBS
does make the need for a Usenet reading app and/or
newsreader redundant if it works okay.
IF you get the access.

I do prefer a newsreader, but an online portal that is not
Google Groups is handy for those that find that sort of thing
easier to use.
I think that (Online Portal) is what Eternal-September's
operator, Ray, is tring to set up with .... is it RockLight or
something.

Rocksolid Light is the actual software for the web based forum
set-up, using nntp as its back-end. (Think "News Portal" from
the old days.) NovaBBS is the one the guy running the free nntp
service i2pn2 uses, but yes, Ray at eternal-september is
supposed to be working an his own version for web access to his
Usenet service...
For those that were used to accessing Usenet via a web portal -
Tim and the Coca-Cola Kid spring to mind - it would make Usenet
easy for them to use again. No need to configure a newsreader
and all that... In the long run it would also mean smartphone
and tablet access to Usenet would be improved. That's why I
asked Mike about NovaBBS on his new Android phone.
News reading is old fashioned and probably on its
way out.

Don't let Dave hear you say that. He gets reactional if anybody
suggests Usenet is dying.

I’d be happy to use a well behaved online service and would even pay a >nominal one off or annual fee to maintain it (I was happy to pay the

This app on iPhone (NewsTap) is excellent except for lack of kill files

Nope, like K-9 before it, its just ans email client. No one
seems to be stepping up to the plate to add nntp
functionality. Ah well. I had hopes for a day, there.
