    FAKE NEWS

    More Disney woke garbage!

How dare they interfere with episode titles of our favourite TV
show... that finished in 2017... and nobody watches anymore.

Why change the episode title for twenty five people, and
according to the data I have compiled from my YouTube channel
and from what I've read in Playboy, only ten of those people
watched the episode all the way through anyway... or will do in
    December.

What an outrage. I am not paying my TV licence fee for this sort
    of revisionism.

Trying NovaBBS. Does feel like 30 year old BBS site, fest in messages is
in courier monospaced and looks like you have to log in again every time
you want to post a message. So I think this may be a no from me - it
makes Google Groups (RIP) look like high design success.

    IF you get the access.

Anyone that can access the internet can access NovaBBS... it's a
web browser interface for accessing Usenet newsgroups. (A basic
web browsing interface admitidly, but it seems to work.)

    something.

Rocksolid Light is the actual software for the web based forum
set-up, using nntp as its back-end. (Think "News Portal" from
the old days.) NovaBBS is the one the guy running the free nntp
service i2pn2 uses, but yes, Ray at eternal-september is
supposed to be working an his own version for web access to his

For those that were used to accessing Usenet via a web portal -
Tim and the Coca-Cola Kid spring to mind - it would make Usenet
easy for them to use again. No need to configure a newsreader
and all that... In the long run it would also mean smartphone
and tablet access to Usenet would be improved. That's why I
asked Mike about NovaBBS on his new Android phone.

I’d be happy to use a well behaved online service and would even pay a nominal one off or annual fee to maintain it (I was happy to pay the
    Germans a few euros a year for news.individual.net) but I don’t think
NovaBBS is a great answer. There is no good Android app (PhoNews is the
best I could find) - the few options out there almost all focus on
binaries. News reading is old fashioned and probably on its way out.

This app on iPhone (NewsTap) is excellent except for lack of kill files
(you can colour code messages from individuals and mark them as read on receipt, which is usually good enough). But this phone’s lightning port has died (can only charge by induction), and it’s a good few years old, so a great corporate-plus-Black-Friday discount on Samsungs mean I’m finally weaning myself off the Apple ecosystem so goodbye NewsTap.

But, I’ve literally just spotted what might be my solution: Thunderbird finally has an Android client! Off to check it out now.

That's because he's terrified of the possibility. If Usenet dies, he
won't be able to "win" the post count "contest". It would force him to
    go out and....get a life.

Nope, like K-9 before it, its just ans email client. No one seems to be
stepping up to the plate to add nntp functionality. Ah well. I had hopes
    for a day, there.

Most people assume nntp is dead or dying out... if they even
know what it is. The majority of the Usenet world in 2024
revolves around Binaries and indexers* now since NZB's have made
it a lot easier to 'get' stuff from Usenet than it was in the
old days of decoding a hundred pieces and then putting them all
    together yourself... (etc.)

That's why I hope to see the online web portals [like NovaBBS]
improve in time as it is possible that people will be more
inclined to access Usenet via a web forum type of thing whilst
they are browsing online than go to the hassle of setting-up a
newsreader and downloading messages from newsgroups. We are old
school, we can do it in our sleep, but some people's heads would
explode trying to configure something called a newsreader and
having to then sign up for a news service to read things!!!

    * Whilst on the subject, Eweka have a great Black Friday offer
of €2.50 a month Usenet access (that's €30 for the year) which
includes a free EasyNews account and a VPN. Bargain!!!

just look up NNTP client in your shop.

What does your shop recommend?! After all, you are the CEO of a
