I am down to the last eppisode of SG 3.
I was not expecting much from Season 3, Season 2 was definately sub par compared to Season 1, not just because we were all familiar with the format, but it lacked a lot of what I felt was some of the darker elements and shock of the first season. Which even for a Korean drama had some pretty good shock moments.
Season 3 while not completely capturing it, did bring back the raw class warfare, greed, and depravity of the human condition. The irony and sacrifice of the mother / son sub plot of Guen-Ja and Yong-sik was interesting and heart wrenching to see to its conclusion.
The dynamic of the baby being put into the games is also chilling, and is intruiging to think about from being an outsider who has been able to view Korean culture while living there for 14 years, and the drastic social changes that have taken place just in that time span and their plummeting birthrate. In a country that had in the past been a collective society and very mindful of its future as a whole, and the importance of family. The younger generation seems more focused on amassing wealth and security for themselves and keeping up with the latest tech and fashion trends than tradition family roles/values, and ultimately the continuation of their society.
Looking forward to watching the final eppisode.
Have you seen any of The Squid Games series? What are your thoughts?
