Cox business class customer provides guest Wi-Fi access to transcient contractors.
Some of them use Tor Browser to access support docs remotely.
After some recent Cox repairs and upgrades, Tor is unreliable.
Constant circuit loss, retries on new circuits etc.
Cox Internet in general seems reliable, no losses, drops, fast. No
other complaints.
VPN out of the network and bring up Tor.
Tor connection issues stop, reliable, responsive and no more
reconnects.
Drop the VPN, Tor issues return.
Go to local outlet mall for lunch, it has Cox Wi-Fi.
Run the same test for the heck of it, Tor unreliable. Connect to VPN,
Tor reliable for the duration of the hour long lunch.
Whatever Cox did recently is causing Tor circuits to drop. Rebooting
the office Cox equipment and internal switches did not change
anything.
The Tor issue is not occurring on a T-Mobile phone Wi-Fi hotspot, or a
T- Mobile phone Ethernet hotspot. Tor remains reliable. FYI, the
T-Mobile D/L - U/L = 538 Mbps / 35 Mbps.
Verizon phone Wi-Fi hotspt, no Tor issues there. The Verizon phone
did not support Ethernet hotspot.
AT&T wireless phone Wi-Fi hotspt, no Tor issues there. The AT&T phone
did not permit Ethernet hotspot, it was greyed out.
