I wrote a webpage today. Its purpose is to show a partial workaround
working around a LibreOffice-Writer bug. It also mentions various
LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org bugs in many versions on many operating

I gave up on LibreOffice, back when it was StarOffice. I believe I
completely lost faith after the lawnmover took over the Sun.

In any case, now I use CorelDRAW and WordPerfect for almost all of
my /office/ needs.

Now, I recognize that not everyone has a budget for a fully blown
commercial office suite, but there are alternatives, such as writing
one; but here in comp.lang.fortran, I just can't recommend doing it
in that language.


Which programming language do you think is best to reimplement an office
suite?

Another example bug in LibreOffice Writer than examples I already
wrote about is . . .

failing to save a file which is not a read only file on a filesysyem
which was a read only file when LibreOffice opened it and if
LibreOffice entered an editing mode.

That is indeed annoying. Are you irritated enough, yet, to just start
to write your own office toolset?

Javisst. A workaround is to Save as a different filename. Such a
problem rarely happens to me. Problems with only readable files which
happen to me often (often in comparison to how little I use a word
processor) with LibreOffice Writer follow. One frequent problem is
that navigating an only readable file is much less easy than with a
writable file. E.g. clicking on a number indicating a footnote behaves differently.

A frequent problem is LibreOffice Writer does not offer the keyboard (non-mouse) cursor for an only readable file, so making copying and
pasting less easy.

work on.
