His voice and style changed quite a bit after the 80's. I didn't even realize that he had a couple of albums out in the 90's. I checked them out.. and the songs don't appeal to me. Another recording around 2019 called "Solo" is also unimpactful musically. His voice loses the low register, and he spends a lot of time "squeezing out" the higher notes. But many of the songs have excellent life-musing lyrics. I think other singers could give those later songs in the 90's a better chance to be noticed.

The Sundown album seems to be the most recent best. I'd add the tune "The Watchman's Gone", and "Is There Anyone Home" to the above list as worthy listens.

    August,

His voice and style changed quite a bit after the 80's.

I went to see one of the final concerts of Paul Simon's "Homeward Bound" tour... his voice was shot. Mid-song going an octave lower ...

Lastly Paul McCartney exactly the same thing ...

Just Mick Jagger just keeps on doing whatever it is he does, but he doesn't sing anyways.

Excuse me for the interjection. Been thinking about Gordon Lightfoot like everyone else these days I suppose.

Ronnie Hawkins lived just north of my town for years, on Stoney Lake, before his health began to suffer and he moved to town. Gordon Lightfoot, and
Kris Kristofferson were regular visitors, along with many other musicians. Ronnie passed a while back, and I think it affected Gord's mood alot. Damn, Kris is the last one now. I saw Gord perform a few months ago at Massey Hall in Toronto and he looked tired then, though his spirit still shone through.

    I'll miss him.

Yes, something special has been lost. A friend of my brothers lived a few
doors down from Lightfoot and he used to drop in now and then to play
tunes with them. He was a very down to earth guy they said.

Listening to some of his songs today I was reminded of how many of his
pieces were in my repertoire. Rarely did I do more than a couple of songs
by any one artist but I probably learned 8 or 10 of his over the years.
Two of my most requested favourites at friend's parties were Edmund Fitz.
and If You Could Read My Mind. I refer to parties with others who played
guitar or fiddle. I didn't too often get paid to play although I was once offered a space on a mixed record for a song I wrote but that project
sort of went under before it got to the production phase. Being a musician
was never a big dream of mine though so it didn't break my heard. I played
an electric guitar and wrote songs in a teenage rock group for a few years
and later bought a 12 string and a couple of 6 string acoustic guitars
and got more into folk type music so Lightfoot balads fit in well.

But the world has lost a unique person and many of us will miss him..

IIRC, like Lightfoot, Kristopherson was also the subject of a fairly-recent internet death hoax.
