    here when this was recently brought up in eternal-september.support,
    this seems to be a Thunderbird-specific thing that isn't present and
    wasn't present in Mozilla/SeaMonkey.

    Was it like that from the beginning in Thunderbird or was it a later UI
    change?

    It's just a problem between the user and the keyboard. "Reply" and
    "Followup" buttons are adjacent, and "reply" comes first. I've recently started using Thunderbird, so it's mostly muscle memory.

    I had trouble getting Thungerbird set up for news on my old PC. I
    usually posted from my iPad using NewsTap, and from my desktop using
    Pan. My "new" computer runs Thunderbird well, and I wanted to use one
    app for mail and news. I'm sure I'll get it eventually.
