    According to Carlos E.R. <robin_listas@es.invalid>:
I get some of those also. The book suggestions are the wildest, often not
genres I've ever read. Then there are the Prime 'First Reads' offerings
that are very heavily weighted towards what I consider chick lit.

AFAIK, Amazon ebooks are not standard epubs (DRM or not), so I am not >interested in them. So far, I haven't got any offer.

Amazon has their own format called AZW. Confusingly, their send-to-Kindle
app and their email gateway only accept EPUB, not AZW.

The popular calibre ebook convrsion program can convert AZW with a
    deDRM plugin.

There are Kindle apps for phones and tablets and Windows and Mac so you don't need a physical Kindle. It can be kind of a pain to find the AZW files the app uses but they're there.

No. I don't know how that would fit into their system. The ebooks are
sent to one or more of your kindles.

No, they can be sent to other devices. For example, you could install the Kindle app on a PC and download books to there.

No. I don't know how that would fit into their system. The ebooks are sent
to one or more of your kindles. There is no provision to download a file independently. You can send an epub to your kindle. Sometimes that works better than others. I've seen the same thing with Calibre though. It's
like the file is interleaved pdf and html so as you see each page twice as you try to read it.

It was just a curiosity, wondering if I can use them as a boor source.

I can buy ebooks from the Kobo book shop, and they install automatically
via WiFi. But I can manually buy epubs from other book shops, like "Casa
del Libro" or "Baens". If it is DRM protected, I have to use Adobe
Digital Editions in Windows, if not, I just use Calibre.

Similarly, you can download ebooks from Kobo bookshop with Adobe Digital Editions into readers from other brands.
